Thailand’s Public Relations Department (PRD) has announced that the Ministry of Public Health would expand tele-healthcare services to alleviate congestion in public hospitals. The initiative aims to reduce outpatient crowding by at least 5% by September 2025, as part of broader efforts to modernise healthcare delivery.
The expansion includes several key components: telemedicine services, home delivery of medications, and the use of digital medical certificates. These measures are designed to enhance access to medical care, reduce patient waiting times, and ease the burden on healthcare staff and facilities.
As part of the telehealth initiative, patients will receive medications and medical supplies at home, reducing the need for in-person follow-ups and promoting continuous care. Healthcare professionals will also have access to electronic health records through regulated access protocols, ensuring treatment decisions are based on accurate and up-to-date medical histories.
To ensure the digital transition is secure, the Ministry has introduced the 2024 Telemedicine Service Standards, which establish strict requirements for professional qualifications, secure identity verification, system integration, and patient consent. All tele-health services must be documented and data must be stored in compliance with national cybersecurity laws.
The Ministry’s digital health platform, accessible through the “Mor Prom” application and Line Official Account, will provide a secure environment for both patients and providers. This initiative supports Thailand’s ongoing efforts to improve healthcare accessibility and efficiency through digital innovation, with a strong focus on data security and patient privacy.
