The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) has recently announced the establishment of the Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technologies Center, a state-of-the-art research hub focused on advancing strategic technologies and cybersecurity — particularly in 5G and next-generation 6G networks.
Backed by Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology, the center will be based at the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) in Hanoi.
Nokia, a key founding partner, will contribute its cutting-edge Digital Automation Cloud (DAC) to the initiative, enabling high-level connectivity solutions. The center is set to become a collaborative platform uniting academics, industry leaders, and policymakers from both countries to advance digital transformation and cyber resilience.
The idea for the center took shape following a 2023 visit by Vietnam’s former Minister of Information and Communications to UTS Tech Lab. During this visit, the need for deeper collaboration in technology research and training was highlighted.
According to UTS, the center aligns with Vietnam’s Resolution 57, which identifies digital transformation and science and technology as key pillars of the country’s socio-economic progress. UTS Vice-Chancellor Professor Andrew Parfitt said the center reinforces the university’s global impact mission, serving both technological advancement and social inclusion.
In addition to connectivity, the center will explore AI, semiconductors, chip design, clean energy, and environmental engineering, while also strengthening cybersecurity collaboration between the two nations.
