Ajinomoto Philippines Targets 50% Reduction in Environmental Impact by 2030

Apr 2025

Ajinomoto Philippines Corp. (APC), the local subsidiary of Japan-based Ajinomoto Group, has announced plans to cut its environmental footprint by half by 2030 as part of its long-term sustainability strategy. The company’s target aligns with the global parent firm’s broader goals to contribute to environmental preservation while maintaining its food manufacturing operations.

According to APC President Koichi Ozaki, the company is implementing initiatives to reduce its use of plastic packaging and transition toward more sustainable materials. One of the initial steps includes introducing a paper-based packaging format for its popular monosodium glutamate (MSG) product, commonly known as “vetsin.” This move marks a shift away from traditional plastic packaging, which has been widely used in the food industry.

In addition, APC is replacing plastic bundling materials for sachet products with recyclable paper bands. The changes are part of a broader campaign to reduce plastic waste and help mitigate the environmental damage caused by excessive single-use plastics.

Ajinomoto’s sustainability approach also reflects increasing consumer and regulatory demand in the Philippines for more environmentally responsible practices across the fast-moving consumer goods sector. By focusing on packaging innovation and waste reduction, APC aims to align its operations with national and global environmental targets while continuing to serve local market needs.
