Sanad, a global leader in aerospace engineering and leasing solutions wholly owned by Mubadala Investment Company PJSC, has established a five-year partnership with Lion Air, Indonesia’s largest privately owned airline. Under this agreement, the UAE company will deliver comprehensive MRO services for V2500 engines, which power Lion Air’s Airbus A320 fleet and aircraft operated by Batik Air and Super Air Jet.
This milestone reflects the deepening economic and aviation cooperation between the UAE and Indonesia. It aligns with the goals of the UAE-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which targets an increase in bilateral trade to USD 10 billion annually by 2026.
At the heart of this partnership is the V2500 engine, produced by International Aero Engines, which has been a pivotal aviation component since its introduction in 1989. Currently, the engine powers over 2,600 aircraft and is used by more than 170 operators globally, having accumulated an impressive 275 million flight hours, reflecting its efficiency, reliability, and durability. By 2023, more than 5,280 V2500 engines will remain in service worldwide, highlighting their sustained importance in modern aviation.
Sanad will utilize its advanced facilities in Abu Dhabi to provide maintenance services for Lion Air’s V2500 engine fleet. With over 250 V2500 engines serviced in the past five years, Sanad has remained the sole V2500 full overhaul service provider in the Middle East since 2012. This new agreement strengthens Sanad’s standing as a leading independent MRO service provider and a trusted partner to top global airlines.
Lion Air, one of the largest fleet operators in Southeast Asia, currently manages a fleet of over 310 aircraft. The new agreement expands to include MRO services for V2500 engines used by Super Air Jet and Batik Air, both subsidiaries of Lion Air. Collectively, these airlines operate more than 65 aircraft equipped with V2500 engines.
With over 38 years of experience in aircraft engine MRO, Sanad has serviced over 600 V2500 engines since 2012. The company’s broad client portfolio includes more than 30 airlines and 10 strategic partners across the Middle East, Europe, Africa, the Americas, and Asia.
