Thai retailers are increasingly entering the growing market for second-hand luxury fashion, driven by the global sustainability movement. The market is expected to see annual growth of 12%, with younger generations showing interest in high-quality pre-owned items at more affordable prices. In 2024, Thailand’s second-hand fashion market was valued at approximately THB 40 billion (USD 1.2 billion), with demand coming not only from local consumers but also from neighboring countries like Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos.
The rise of second-hand fashion is contributing to the circular economy by providing consumers with the opportunity to buy quality products at lower prices, while also allowing sellers to trade unwanted items for cash. This trend is gaining momentum as it supports sustainable consumption patterns.
Retailers such as Thai retail giant Saha Group have capitalized on this trend by collaborating with Japanese second-hand luxury chains, Komehyo and Ragtag. Komehyo opened its fifth branch in Bangkok at The Mall Lifestore Bangkapi, while Ragtag launched a pop-up outlet at CentralWorld mall. Additionally, Siam Piwat’s Circular of Lux store in Siam Discovery mall offers a platform for customers to engage in sustainable fashion by selling or buying pre-owned luxury goods, including bags, clothing, accessories, and shoes. This store, especially popular with wealthy Gen Z consumers, reflects the growing interest in responsible consumption and luxury second-hand fashion in Thailand.
