The National Dairy Authority (NDA) has partnered with French consultancy Phylum SARL to assess the feasibility of the Philippine Dairy Project, which aims to establish a modern dairy farm in Ubay, Bohol. The study will determine eligibility for a concessional loan from the French government.
The project envisions a farm with over 300 cows and a processing facility capable of handling 10 metric tons of raw milk daily. It will also collaborate with local cooperatives to enhance milk production, training, and processing infrastructure across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. and Phylum’s Francois Gary, with French Ambassador Marie Fontanel in attendance. Funded by France’s Fonds d’Etudes et d’Aide au Secteur Privé (FASEP), the study aims to modernize the Philippine dairy sector, which currently meets only 1.66% of the country’s milk demand.
With a goal of increasing milk sufficiency to 5% by 2028, the NDA welcomes international partnerships to boost production and address industry challenges.
