EG Industries Berhad, Malaysia’s leading Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) and Vertical Integration provider, has partnered with Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd., one of the biggest motorcycles manufacturers for the setting up of a 5G automated intelligent SMT production lines for its upcoming Smart Lights-Out factory in Penang. The collaboration is set to be Yamaha’s first venture in Malaysia.
The company announced that the estimated value may reach MYR 80 million (USD 17.30 million) CAPEX in phases over two years for the implementation and commissioning of the intelligent production lines. EG’s Smart Lights-Out manufacturing plant creates a fully networked environment that digitizes material flow for autonomous manufacturing. The new two-storey Smart Factory 4.0 manufacturing facility in Batu Kawan, Penang will house approximately 10 to 15 lines. It can house approximately an additional 48 production lines for EG versus the 36 production lines. The project aims to be completed by the first half of 2024.
A few notable domestic and international clients, including the US-based Cambridge Industries Group (CIG), were interested in the upcoming Smart Factory 4.0. EG Industries signed a Letter of Intent with CIG to produce Advanced High-Speed Optical Signal Transmitter and Receiver for 5G wireless network (Optical Modules) using photonics and semiconductor technologies for their international clients. It would be the first time CIG had ever sent pioneer technology to Southeast Asia.
